At what age should children start visiting the dentist?
Here at Affinity Dental Associates, we like to informally meet children around 18 months of age. This way we can introduce your child to the concept of going to the dentist. He or she can see exactly what happens at the dentist and we can give your child a quick and informal examination. Then, when your child is ready for their first real examination, around age 2, he or she will be much more comfortable.
What are the Benefits of Dental Visits for Children?
- Peace of Mind: The more frequent a child goes to the dentist at an early age, the more comfortable they will feel about it in the future.
- Development of Good Oral Hygiene Habits: It is important to show your child the importance of good oral health. Early and frequent visits with the dentist are a great way to accomplish this.
- Good Oral Health: Of course, the biggest advantage of dental visits for children is good oral health. Dentists can spot warning signs of problems far before they develop and take the necessary steps to correct these issues.
- Dental Sealants: Between the ages of 7 and 9, your dentist will probably recommend dental sealants, a plastic resin that bonds to a tooth’s chewing surface.
- And Much More!
Catonsville Pediatric Dentistry from Affinity Dental Associates
By relating to children with understanding and patience at a level they can understand, we find that most children will be more accepting of the necessary dental treatment. Of course, not all children are cooperative. For those children or procedures, we have different levels of sedation available.
