First, consider what a tooth stain is — each tooth is made up of an inner layer of dentin and a hard outer enamel layer that protects the tooth. Another layer gradually forms on top of the enamel as you put things in your mouth, whether it’s food, cigarette smoke, coffee, etc. As this layer sits on your teeth for years and years, it gets into the enamel and creates a stain.
