Celebrate World Smile Day On October 6

Celebrate World Smile Day this Friday!

Celebrate World Smile Day this Friday!

This Friday, celebrate world smile day by sharing your smile to brighten someone’s day. At Affinity Dental, we know just how important smiles are, and believe that everyone should be proud of their smiles! Take this time to remember how much a smile can mean to someone, and share a small act of kindness with others.

History of World Smile Day

Harvey Ball created one the most iconic symbols of our lifetime- the smiley face. With just a circle, two dots and an upturned curve, the symbol affected everything from graffiti to our modern day emojis. After all of the hype around the symbol, Harvey became concerned that it was only being used as commercialization, and thought that his symbol was stripped of its original intent and meaning. To combat this, he created World Smile Day, a day devoted to spreading positivity and joy to everyone.

Harvey sadly passed away in 2001, but the foundation he helped create, the Harvey Ball World Smile Foundation, continues to carry his message of spreading peace and happiness. The foundation sponsors World Smile Day each year, on the first Friday of October.

How To Celebrate

Everyone can celebrate World Smile Day by simply making a conscious effort to radiate positivity and spread love to those around them. We forget how much impact a smile has, but giving a smile and warm greeting to a friend or giving a smile and small wave to a stranger passing by can lift their spirits and add some happiness to their day. If you are truly ambitious and want to make a bigger difference, you can become a World Smile Day ambassador on their website, and set up local events promoting the day.

Love Your Smile

You should know that your smile is beautiful, no matter what! However, many of us want to have the brightest, whitest teeth and are unsure how to get our teeth to that stage. The truth is, it is challenging to get your teeth as white as possible, even with good dental hygiene and a proper diet. Discoloration is nothing to be ashamed of, as it can be a result of genetics, medication, certain beverages or foods, or aging. If you would like to boost your confidence and get the whiter smile you’ve always dreamed of, Affinity Dental can help with a teeth whitening procedure.
